Minister of Local Government and Rural Development Kondwani Nankhumwa has instructed President Peter Mutharika not to field Vice President Saulos Chilima as his runningmate at the 2019 polls.

Nankhumwa who is also Director of Elections for ruling Democratic Progressive Party (DPP) said this during a development rally Mutharika  held the rally at Mankhokwe Primary School ground in Chileka after  he  presided over a ground breaking ceremony of a dual carriageway to be constructed from Clock Tower in Blantyre Central Business District (CBD) to Chileka Airport.

A voice and video clip in Malawi Daily Mail possession quotes Nankhumwa sending the spine chilling instruction before hundreds of party supporters.

He told the gathering that  those who were not with Mutharika when he was arrested for treason in 2013 should not be confusionists in the ruling party.

DPP top brass from the Lhomwe-belt have persuaded Mutharika not to partner Chilima as his running mate in the 2019 elections saying he is a newcomer and might not protect them from persecution due to their corrupt dealings.
