Former President DR JOYCE BANDA Has Been Honoured For Leadership And Women Empowerment

Malawi Former President Dr Joyce Banda was honored at the African Union Mission for her career in public service and leadership, alongside Her Excellency President Ellen Johnson Sirleaf of Liberia. Several female ambassadors and high level African Union officials, as well as the President of the Association of Professional Women of the Diaspora were in attendance.

Dr Banda spoke about the importance of addressing barriers girls face on their leadership journey, including child marriage and lack of education. Dr Banda also encouraged the audience, comprised mainly of young African women, to be confident, proud, and inclusive in order to promote development in Africa.

Dr Banda praised President Sirleaf for taking a war torn country and leading her nation in reconciliation and rebuilding the Liberia we see today. She cited Ellen as one of her role models and commended her for her inspirational leadership journey, which has paved the way for other African women to become leaders.

During Dr Joyce Banda’s reign as Malawi President the country enjoyed ¬†economic development and continuous electricity supply as well as improved healthcare services in Malawi some of the great works for which she is remembered for.
